Who are you? What do you want?

Know who you are, Know what you want

I have lived a life of change, from massive highs to very dark lows, I have been on the top, and the bottom of life. It has taught me that there are 2 really important things in life.

  • Know who you are

  • Know what you want

When I follow these I get what I want, when I don’t I get pushed around, eventually to the bottom, as I don’t believe in what I am doing, and it shows. Often we know what we want, we just don’t know how to articulate it, plan it and chase it. Too many other people are telling us what we need to do, tell us why it won't work, they just put up obstacles for us.

No one asks us if it is what we want, why we want it, and what we are going to do to get it.

Regardless of if you are looking for personal or professional coaching, the same is true. It is easier to do if we all can see, understand and work towards a common goal. If your team is not engaged, it may be because the goal is not clear, the reason that they are in the office is not valid enough. People can clearly see what they do for a job, they may well even be able to see the impact of it, but can they see the point? How does my job change or enhance the company?

If your company and team needs to be clear on -

What do you do, Why do you do it

What each person contributes to that goal - then there is a reason to do it. If the reason is clear, people can agree with it - or pass - that is fair enough. We cannot chase every cause, but if we don’t have a cause we drift. Drifting is getting pushed around by everyone else, clients, suppliers, staff, management - they will all take advantage of your drifting. If you are not clear on what the point of your department is, it will become pushed around, and people won’t know its purpose. The program I offer it simple - Define what you want, Define where you are, plan how to get to where you want to be - and then check in monthly to make sure that you are on track.

Remember:

Your coach won’t tell you how to do something, but give you the confidence to think and communicate your own ideas to the world.

I can make suggestions - but this is your life - and your responsibility.

I am not here to change you but to focus you.
